End of Term!

Yay, school has finished for the year. The staff at work had one staff development day (SDD) earlier in the year, so they got to finish today. For their SDD, they were each presenting a Quality Teaching project. Now although I trained as a teacher, I've never worked permanently so haven't had to do any presentations like this.

My job today developed into assisting the teachers who were using the data projector for their presentation. Our library was the venue & unfortunately isn't the best for presenting via laptop - the connection is at the back of the room. So I got to hit space bar on several powerpoint presentations. One I'd been trying to help with because the videos wouldn't work. Multitasking big time at one stage while trying to keep up with my email on a different laptop.

One of the teachers did her whole presentation in Xtranormal - it was really cool. I didn't think to ask her permission to post it, but I will. I spent most of the morning, in between operating powerpoints, trying to sort out what was happening. I figured it was a problem with Xtranormal - sure enough eventually it was posted on their forum what their problem was. Published it again & it was good to go. I was tracking what was happening on their forums & didn't think that we'd get a solution but we did. Apparently they had some coverage on YouTube this week & have had a surge in video creations.

I was in & out of the presentations, but was happy to hear that there was alot of talk of using technology & the laptops in classes. Since I'd heard a lot of negative stuff previously (mostly about kids playing games in class), it was nice. Our principal was promoting 'Breakkie with a Teckkie' (a video conference series looking at lots of Web 2.0 Tools) quite a bit, so looks like I might have some company next year! She kept calling it Breakkie with a Treckkie though!

Lunch was amazing - very difficult for me to go back to work after everyone else got to go home! Our hospitality teacher was a chef & he & some assistants made some fantastic food.

All in all a great end to the term. I get to go back tomorrow, then wait & see what happens with the flood waters!!

Camping

Over the Easter weekend we go camping (most years anyway). We go out to P's cousins property & camp in the bush. This was the first time for SJ & we weren't sure she'd like it. See the smile on her face? It was there for most of the time we were there! She loved it. Early on she asked where the sink & bath were (the toilet had to be hurriedly put together when she needed to go!) She ran around most of the weekend with no shoes, playing in the dirt. We had to soak her feet on the last morning. It looked like she had a huge splinter in her foot - but it was just a cut that was full of dirt. The only bandaids we had wouldn't stick (I'd already proved that after I'd burnt my hand the day before), so she got her foot bandaged - she then ran around with 1 gumboot & 1 sneaker until I took her home. School Holiday Stitching

This is the first school holidays in a while where we haven't had the whole 2 weeks filled with stuff to do! Yes we are away, but we are staying with family, my husband is working (he's working in Sydney for 6 weeks) and for the rest of us there's not much on the agenda. So there has been plenty of time for me to cross stitch and my 2 girls have been doing a lot of Diamond Dotz pictures. I finished my smallest project - the Iris kit I got from the op shop. I had some time waiting for medical appointments last week so was able to get a bit done then so just kept going until it was finished  It was a pretty dodgy kit! The needle was a normal sewing needle, the dark green wasn't on the pattern and then the hoop type frame that came with it didn't fit!! The Trees We're in summer now, so the spring flowers are pretty much finished. If they weren't before they will be after the heatwave of the last couple of days!! This is a ponytail palm my hubby got a long time before we got married. It was originally in a pot  indoors until he planted it out. It's apparently unusual to have one with so many 'ponytails' & so many flower spikes on it. Pretty much every year we get at least this many flower spikes. Sometimes more - it depends if we've remembered to remove the dead ones from the previous year. Occasionally one of the branches rots - another one shoots up to replace it.
