E riding at the Show

E LOVES horse riding. She goes to RDA in the next town - RDA stands for Riding Develops Ability (used to be called Riding for the Disabled). In the next town they have it every 2nd Monday during Term 2 & Term 3 - it's generally too hot the rest of the year (for riders & volunteers)

Riding started again last Tuesday. So riding on Saturday was the 2nd time she'd been back in the saddle since last October. You would have thought she'd been riding all that time. Straight up into the saddle - they have a special mounting ramp so it's easy for all the riders. She'd had to wait for a while - the adults went first. She collected her helmet & boots then sat patiently waiting until it was her turn to ride Nay. Nay is the horse she generally rides - Request is the other horse she rides sometimes. Nay is a grey horse - she tells us all grey horses are Nay!

They have a course they follow - moving flags side to side, over a pretend bridge, posting a letter - all develops different riding skills. When they finished the course they came back past the crowed watching (not huge but very encouraging!). Everytime she came past she waved - I think that was her favourite part - she came past 3 times. One person lead the horse & she had a side walker whose job for E is to tell her which way to go & remind her what to do. She refuses to hold the reins right which makes stopping and steering interesting!

Once the other 2 finished going through the course (there were 2 teenage boys as well as E), they lined up to get their ribbons - all the RDA riders got a ribbon. She is very chuffed with the ribbon. Her teacher from school even came & watched her ride!!

We stayed at the show for a while afterwards - there didn't seem to be many people around but I think the entertainment started later in the day. E was asking about a puppet show - at our local Show there's this Punch & Judy show that I always thought she didn't like!! Had lunch, the kids got 1 showbag & a ride - then we were tired out! SJ fell asleep almost as soon as the car started. E was pretty tired too.
